Rakell Finishes Shootout

Five shootout goals followed a 1-1 game through regulation and overtime before Rickard Rakell scored the final goal to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins were the home team, and the attendance was 18,192.

The shootout scoring sequence began with Pittsburgh’s Ben Kindel and continued with Sidney Crosby, Dallas’ Tyler Seguin, the Stars’ Wyatt Johnston and then Rakell. Rakell’s wrist shot completed the shootout and secured the Penguins’ second goal of the game.

Third-Period Exchange

Neither team scored in the opening period, and the second period also ended without a goal. Pittsburgh broke through in the third when Connor Dewar scored on a backhand for a 1-0 lead. Blake Lizotte assisted on Dewar’s goal.

Dallas answered in the third period to tie the game. Seguin scored on a tip-in, with Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen credited with assists. Seguin’s goal was his first of the game and left the teams tied at 1.

The score remained 1-1 through the rest of the third period. Overtime also was scoreless, sending the game to the shootout, where Rakell provided the deciding goal for Pittsburgh.

Leaders and Records

Dewar led the Penguins with one goal and one point, while Lizotte recorded one assist. Seguin led the Stars with one goal and one point, and Heiskanen had one assist.

The Penguins improved to 3-2-1 with seven points. The Stars moved to 2-2-1 with five points.
