Southwest Airlines, the Dallas-based carrier that employs about 19,190 people in the city according to Dallas' 2024 annual financial report, has put its summer 2027 schedule on sale with 11 new or returning routes centered on Austin, Nashville and San Diego.

The airline announced the routes on Friday, Oct. 2. The seasonal flights run during the peak travel period from June 3 through Aug. 2, 2027. The Points Guy reported that nine of the 11 routes are ones Southwest has never flown before.

Austin gets the most

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport picks up seven of the routes. Three are international and new: weekend flights to Nassau in the Bahamas, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Liberia, Costa Rica. The airport said those will be its only nonstop service to the three cities. Austin also gets new weekend service to Savannah, Ga., and Saturday flights to Bozeman, Mont., while seasonal daily flights to Portland, Ore., last flown in 2018, and Saturday flights to Sarasota, Fla., last flown in 2023, return.

Southwest said it expects to operate as many as 143 daily Austin departures on peak days next summer, and it will boost its year-round Austin-San Diego flying to a maximum of six daily flights on peak days.

Nashville and San Diego

From Nashville, Southwest is adding nonstops to Boise, Idaho; Nassau; and Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, and bringing back seasonal Bozeman service. The Points Guy reported the airline plans as many as 220 daily Nashville flights next summer.

San Diego gets new Sunday service to Oklahoma City, plus the return of seasonal flights to Pittsburgh, Columbus, Ohio, and Bozeman.

Construction is underway on Southwest's first airport lounges, in Austin and Nashville, according to The Points Guy.
