A Fourth-Quarter Surge

Conner Weigman threw for 239 yards and rushed for four touchdowns, leading the Houston Cougars to a 27-17 victory over the UCF Knights on Saturday, October 3. The win improved Houston’s record to 4-1, while UCF fell to 3-2 in front of 25,593 fans at TDECU Stadium.

The game began with the Knights controlling the pace. Keyone Jenkins connected with Josh Derry on a 13-yard pass in the first quarter, giving UCF a 7-0 lead. Will Stone added a 30-yard field goal in the second period, extending the advantage to 10-0 at halftime.

Houston Takes Control

The Cougars emerged from the locker room with renewed intensity. Jenkins recovered for Houston with a 5-yard run in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 10-7. Weigman then took over, scoring on a 19-yard run to tie the game at 14-14. He followed that up with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, putting Houston ahead for the first time at 21-17.

Sealing the Victory

Jonathan Dimas kicked two field goals in the final period to secure the win. His 40-yard kick made it 24-17, and a 46-yard effort sealed the 27-17 result. Jenkins threw for 253 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Duke Watson rushed nine times for 50 yards. Derry led all receivers with seven catches for 101 yards.

For Houston, Re'Shaun Sanford II contributed 62 rushing yards on 18 carries, and Patrick Overmyer caught six passes for 76 yards. Weigman completed 18 of 33 passes, adding his four rushing scores to the offensive output.

Final Thoughts

The Cougars’ ability to respond after trailing by ten points highlighted their resilience. With the victory, Houston moves to 4-1 on the season, while UCF drops to 3-2.
