Houston took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter when C.J. Stroud connected with Nico Collins on a seven-yard pass. Brandon Aubrey responded with a 39-yard field goal, but Ka'imi Fairbairn extended the lead with a 51-yard kick.
The second quarter was dominated by kicking, with Aubrey adding a 50-yard field goal and Fairbairn contributing two more from 39 and 54 yards out. This sequence gave Houston a 16-6 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw the Cowboys strike back. Javonte Williams rushed for an eight-yard touchdown, followed by a 22-yard pass from Stroud to Nico Collins for Houston. Williams then capped the period with a one-yard run, bringing Dallas within a point.
