Residents of a 325-unit apartment complex in Dallas’s Design District were evacuated Friday afternoon after a gas leak was detected on the property. The incident began around 3:06 p.m. when Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a small fire on the fourth floor of the five-story building. Officials stated the blaze caused no injuries and resulted in only minimal damage.
Following the extinguishment of the fire, Atmos Energy conducted what it described as a routine inspection. During this assessment, workers identified a gas leak. Although readings did not indicate significant gas activity within the structure, Dallas Fire-Rescue cut power to the building as a precautionary measure. Power restoration requires authorization from the fire department before residents can return.
Building management confirmed that Atmos personnel remained on-site throughout the evening. The company expects to complete necessary repairs by noon on Saturday. Management issued a statement thanking residents for their cooperation while working with emergency responders to ensure safety.
Five residents required relocation assistance from the American Red Cross, while others were able to secure hotel accommodations. The Dallas Office of Emergency Management stayed at the scene to provide water and shelter support. Dallas Area Rapid Transit also supplied buses for those seeking a cool place to wait.
