Twenty-five years after Islamic extremists hijacked four commercial airplanes and killed nearly 3,000 people, North Texas communities are holding various events to remember the victims and survivors. These tributes include memorial ceremonies, physical challenges, and art exhibitions designed to honor the legacy of the attacks.
In Grapevine, the city is hosting a Day of Remembrance ceremony at the Texan Trail, home to the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial. The event begins just after 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, and will be live-streamed on the city’s Facebook page. Following the ceremony, 455 uniformed first responders from the Grapevine Fire and Police Departments will lead a 1.3-mile march.
This walk honors the 455 firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMS personnel who died on September 11, 2001. The route travels down Wall Street, through Historic Downtown Main Street, and ends at Peace Plaza.
Grapevine High School is also participating in the anniversary with its seventh annual 9/11 Tribute Stair Climb. Scheduled for 7:30 a.m. at Mustang Panther Stadium, the event involves wrestlers and first responders from Grapevine, Colleyville, and Euless climbing 1,980 inclined steps. This number replicates the 110 flights of stairs climbed by responders inside the World Trade Center.
Many participants wear weighted vests to simulate the gear carried by first responders that day. For the 25th anniversary, the names of the victims will be read during the climb.
In Dallas, the Museum of Biblical Art is presenting an exhibition titled "Together We Remember." Opening on September 11, 2026, and running through December 19, 2026, the show features contemporary art exploring themes of memory, loss, and resilience. The exhibition includes painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media works that reflect on the impact of the attacks on individuals and communities.
