The event featured appearances by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the American Airlines Center.
Allison Hudson, assistant director of the Dallas Police Department's Office of Media Relations, described the operation as a success. She noted that officers felt pride in managing the large-scale gathering. Police collaborated with the U.S. Secret Service to ensure safety during the convention. Two individuals were arrested while the event was underway.
Hudson explained that Dallas Police Chief Comeaux held private meetings with President Trump, the city manager, and the fire chief to coordinate security measures. She characterized these discussions as necessary steps taken because of the president's request for direct contact with local leadership.
While law enforcement highlighted their preparedness, nearby business owners reported severe economic disruptions. Security barriers and fencing remained in place around the convention site even after the event concluded, restricting access to surrounding properties.
Kendall Williams, who owns the Bluebonnet and Thyme restaurant, stated that her establishment was forced to close for two days because customers could not reach the location. She reported receiving only five customers throughout the entire week due to the high fences that blocked entry to non-residents. Williams expressed frustration that convention organizers appeared indifferent to the impact on small businesses.
