Democratic lawmakers and their supporters organized multiple gatherings in Dallas on Thursday to demonstrate against the Republican Party’s inaugural midterm convention taking place in the city.
A group calling itself the Dallas Against Trump Coalition held a rally and march in the afternoon. The event began at Pike Park, located on Harry Hines Boulevard. Participants displayed signs with slogans such as "The Constitution is not optional!" and "Be Dolly not Donald."
Organizers had intended for demonstrators to walk to the American Airlines Center, but security measures around that venue were tight due to the convention.
Later that evening, a separate event known as We the People Democratic Rally was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Dallas City Hall. Several prominent Democratic figures were set to speak at this gathering. U.S. Rep. Christian Menefee, along with Beto O’Rourke, Colin Allred, and Jane Kleeb, were listed among the speakers.
The leaders planned to address topics including democracy, freedoms, communities, and the future of Texas during their remarks. These events occurred as thousands of Republicans arrived in Downtown Dallas for the GOP convention.
