Three students from the Dallas area have presented a $1,500 donation to Box 4 Fire Buff Association, a volunteer-run organization that provides logistical support to firefighters. The funds were raised by the students through their nonprofit, Fire Line Fund, which was established to assist first responders in North Texas and beyond.
The initiative began after Sebastian Lee and his brother, Max Lee, witnessed the effects of California wildfires on their grandparents. The family lost their home and most of their belongings in the disaster. This experience motivated the students to create a way to support the firefighters who assist families during such emergencies.
Box 4 Fire Buff Association operates without direct city funding, relying instead on donations to purchase necessary supplies. Volunteers with the group provide water, sports drinks, food, chairs, cooling equipment, and heaters to crews working extended scenes at major incidents. The students connected with the organization through Dallas Fire-Rescue and Box 4 leadership.
The partnership has roots at St. Mark's School of Texas. Dallas Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Christian Hinojosa and Box 4 member Brett Willard are alumni of the school, while one of the students involved with Fire Line Fund currently attends it. Hinojosa noted that initial conversations between the groups developed into meetings and planning sessions that facilitated the collaboration.
