From September 10 to 19, 2026, the City of Dallas participates in Welcoming Week, an international initiative focused on building connections across communities. This year’s theme is "Stories We Share: The Courage to Connect," which emphasizes creating welcoming spaces where residents can thrive.

The celebration highlights efforts by the Office of Housing and Community Empowerment (OHCE) to make Dallas more accessible for newcomers, military veterans, people with disabilities, and visitors. Throughout the year, OHCE collaborates with city departments and community partners to support these goals.

During the ten-day period, various organizations host events centered on culture, arts, health, and community resources. Key activities include:

Art Exhibitions Charreria, a solo exhibition by photographer Brent Kollock, runs from September 10 to 19. It explores the Mexican equestrian tradition. Also running during this period is No Te Dejes by artist David Hanes-Gonzalez, which examines the cultural and spiritual dimensions of the Mexican boxing community through photography and sculpture.

Cultural Festivals The AFRIMMA Music Fest takes place at 12:30 pm on Saturday, September 12, at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Annette Strauss Square. It features African music, fashion, and culture. Later that day at 2:00 pm, Representa hosts Cumbia & Carnaval with community celebrations of music and art.

Health and Community Events Dallas College hosts Global Connections Week from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 10; Wednesday, September 16; and Friday, September 18. The City of Dallas Office of Housing and Community Empowerment and CCX/311 will participate in this event.

A Men’s Health and Wellness Fair occurs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, offering health screenings and resources for mental and physical well-being. Additionally, the South Dallas Community Walk runs from 8:00 am to noon on Saturday, September 12, bringing together residents, schools, nonprofits, and healthcare organizations.
