The Dallas Cowboys are changing who will communicate their defensive calls for the second game of the NFL season. Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham will wear the green dot when Dallas faces the Washington Commanders in Week 2.
The change follows a difficult defensive showing in the Cowboys’ season opener against the New York Giants. Dallas surrendered 28 points and had limited success against New York’s offense.
Sportingnews.com reported that coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Barham will handle the defensive communication duties Sunday. The decision was made by defensive coordinator Christian Parker, giving the third-round pick from Michigan responsibility for organizing the unit.
Dallas and Washington both enter the matchup after losing to divisional opponents in Week 1. The team that loses will drop to 0-2. Barham will be tasked with helping the Cowboys’ defense against Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels.
