Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the rest of the season because of a leg injury sustained in the Bears’ win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday. His absence removes an interior defender who quickly became a major part of Baylor’s defensive front.
Tezino had two sacks in Baylor’s game against Auburn and drew strong praise from coach Dave Aranda after the season opener. Aranda said Tezino “was probably our best interior defensive lineman.”
Aranda also said he felt badly for Tezino after the work the player had invested. Baylor will now rely more heavily on the other defensive linemen available along the interior.
Braylen Jackson is among the players who could receive additional opportunities. Aranda described Jackson as a physical defender who has shown he can create movement at the line and perform reliably against the run.
