The Dallas Cowboys are adding Tyler Goodson to their backfield plans after making several changes at the position. Goodson, who spent training camp with the Atlanta Falcons, was signed by Dallas and is expected to provide depth on the practice squad.
Atlanta running back Bijan Robinson discussed Goodson in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa. Robinson described Goodson as an explosive, versatile player who can run, change direction and contribute as a receiver. Robinson also said he wished Goodson had remained with the Falcons.
Goodson led Atlanta during the preseason with 92 rushing yards and scored on a 49-yard touchdown run. He played his first three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, recording 264 yards and one touchdown on 54 carries. He also had 19 catches for 103 yards and another touchdown.
Dallas has been reworking its running back room since releasing 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue near the end of training camp. The Cowboys also signed Goodson while waiving Israel Abanikanda. The moves followed an injury to Malik Davis, according to the report.
Goodson’s role for Dallas is not yet clear, although the team is keeping him as backfield insurance. The Cowboys entered their next game after an opening-week loss to the New York Giants, in which they finished with fewer than 100 rushing yards as a team. Javonte Williams ran for 41 yards in that game.
