The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday as they look to replace Malik Davis, whose hip injury requires surgery and will keep him out for the rest of the season. Davis was injured last week, leaving Dallas to adjust its backup running back group.
Emari Demercado moved into the No. 2 running back role for the Cowboys’ game against the Giants. He received two carries for 7 yards while playing behind starter Javonte Williams. Dallas ran the ball 18 times in that game, with Williams handling 12 attempts.
The report attributed the limited rushing production to the Cowboys trailing for much of the game and not controlling the line of scrimmage.
Goodson spent the past three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after initially signing with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He appeared in 33 games for Indianapolis and recorded 264 rushing yards on 54 attempts, an average of 4.9 yards per carry.
He also played 304 special teams snaps during the previous two seasons, an area where Dallas will lose Davis’ contributions.
Indianapolis released Goodson before he joined the Atlanta Falcons for training camp. Atlanta also released him, after which he cleared waivers and returned to the Falcons’ practice squad. The Cowboys then added him this week, according to the report.
