Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is listed as doubtful for the Bears’ Week 3 game against Louisiana Tech after an ankle sprain kept him out of the team’s second game of the season. Baylor had hoped the junior would return Saturday, but his availability remains uncertain.

Lagway was injured during Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn. He missed the following game, a win over FCS opponent Prairie View A&M, while recovering from the injury.

Coach Dave Aranda offered an early indication that Lagway could be progressing when he said the quarterback took part in the team’s Monday walkthrough after the Prairie View game. Aranda also said Lagway’s status would depend on how he handled practices during the week. Baylor’s final injury report, however, classified him as doubtful.

The report does not indicate that Lagway is expected to miss an extended period. It is not yet clear whether he would be available in an emergency against Louisiana Tech. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes to have Lagway back for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday.

With Lagway sidelined, junior Nate Bennett is expected to take over at quarterback. Edward Griffin is listed second on the depth chart, followed by Quinn Murphy.

Bennett made his first start for Baylor against Prairie View and completed 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 13 yards and a score, while throwing two interceptions. Louisiana Tech has played one Football Bowl Subdivision opponent this season, losing to LSU. Further details about Lagway’s availability for Saturday were not provided.
