The Dallas Cowboys have brought linebackers Curtis Robinson and Justin Barron up from the practice squad for their Week 2 home game against the Washington Commanders. The move gives Dallas additional depth after DeMarvion Overshown suffered a hamstring injury.
The Cowboys have not indicated how long Overshown is expected to be unavailable. Rather than adding a veteran, Dallas chose to elevate Robinson and Barron for this game. Both players can also provide help on special teams.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham will wear the green-dot helmet in Overshown’s absence. That designation identifies the player responsible for receiving defensive calls.
Dallas enters the matchup after a 20-28 loss to the New York Giants in Week 1. The NFL also fined three Cowboys players following that game. Javonte Williams was assessed $11,941 for taunting, while outside linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku received a $11,941 fine for a facemask. Overshown was fined $9,527 for a late hit on quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The Cowboys’ defense is also facing questions at linebacker and safety after its Week 1 performance. The team’s interior defense, including the linebacker group, will be tested against Washington and quarterback Jayden Daniels, according to analysis published by Blogging The Boys.
