Tank Dell's revised contract with the Houston Texans includes incentives that could allow him to recover money while he continues rehabilitating a serious knee injury. The agreement was reached last week, before Houston's Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Under the terms reported Sept. 11, Dell could receive an additional $1.5 million beyond $1.704 million already included in his contract. He can earn $300,000 for reaching a 30% offensive snap share, with another $300,000 available for each 5% increase up to 50%.
Other incentives could bring the total to $3.645 million if he is active for the final 13 games and plays at least half of the team's offensive snaps.
Dell also can earn $38,461 for each game he is active through roster bonuses. He is on injured reserve with a designation to return and will miss at least the season's first four games while recovering from a 2024 knee injury that included a dislocation and torn ACL, MCL and LCL.
Reports said he has resumed limited work and is trying to regain his top speed.
The earliest potential return would come for Houston's home game against the Dallas Cowboys, although Dell could need more time as he works into 11-on-11 practice drills. Once the Texans open his 21-day practice window, they must decide whether to activate him. If no decision is made within that period, he would return to injured reserve and miss the rest of the 2026 season.
