Dare Ogunbowale is rejoining the Houston Texans ahead of Week 4, moving back onto the team’s 53-man roster after a brief period with the Las Vegas Raiders. Sports Illustrated reported the move, citing Houston Chronicle reporter Jonathan M. Alexander.
Ogunbowale spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston and appeared in more than 60 games. His primary work came on special teams, though he also recorded 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns during his Texans tenure.
The addition is not expected to change the top of Houston’s backfield rotation. David Montgomery and Woody Marks are positioned to handle most offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. The Texans’ running back group now has four players.
The team’s reason for adding Ogunbowale is not yet clear. One possibility is that Houston is preparing for a potential injury in the position group, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected to be available until after Wednesday’s practice. Another possibility is that the Texans wanted an experienced reserve who could also contribute on special teams.
Ogunbowale served as a Texans captain last season and accumulated more than 1,000 special teams snaps across his four previous seasons with the club. He also received consistent praise from coach DeMeco Ryans while with the team, according to the report.
