The Houston Texans have brought rookie wide receiver Lewis Bond onto the active roster for their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Bond was elevated from the practice squad through the standard procedure, according to a report published by sports.yahoo.com.
Bond is the second Houston player elevated for the matchup. Veteran safety George Odum, who is also an All-Pro special teams player, received the other call-up.
The move comes with two-time Pro Bowl receiver Nico Collins unavailable for the game. KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Collins is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring injury, and a league source told him the receiver could miss two games, including the Bengals matchup and the following road game against the Indianapolis Colts. The report said Collins’ return timeline remains subject to change.
Houston selected Bond in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL draft with the 204th overall pick. He was later released during the roster reductions to 53 players, a decision that surprised some observers because of his work and perceived fit in the Texans’ offense. Bond also drew attention from fans.
Before the draft, NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein described Bond as a receiver with dependable hands and the ability to make contested catches. Zierlein also wrote that Bond could have difficulty creating separation against professional defenders and might benefit from pre-snap motion or bunch formations.
