Oklahoma finishes the rally

A 47-yard field goal by Tate Sandell provided the final points as the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the visiting Texas Longhorns 27-24 Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma, the home team, rallied from a 24-17 deficit in the fourth quarter and finished with a 17-7 advantage in the period. Attendance was 92,100.

Sandell’s field goal followed Texas’ tying touchdown and completed the game’s final scoring sequence. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer finished 18 of 26 for 155 yards. Lloyd Avant carried 10 times for 72 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Sategna III had five receptions for 64 yards.

Texas builds an early lead

Texas opened the scoring in the first period when Arch Manning connected with Cam Coleman for a 41-yard touchdown pass. Gianni Spetic added the kick for a 7-0 Texas lead.

Oklahoma tied the game in the second period when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell making the kick. Texas answered when Manning found Ryan Wingo for a 34-yard touchdown, again followed by a Spetic kick. Spetic then made a 23-yard field goal, sending Texas to halftime ahead 17-7.

Manning completed 19 of 31 passes for 260 yards, with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Coleman caught five passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Derrek Cooper ran eight times for 41 yards.

Fourth-quarter swing

Sandell’s 53-yard field goal was Oklahoma’s only scoring play of the third period and cut the margin to 17-10. In the fourth, Avant scored on a 2-yard run, and Sandell’s kick made it 17-17.

Texas regained the lead when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown. Sandell’s kick put the Longhorns ahead 24-17. Oklahoma answered with Jermaine Bishop Jr.’s 15-yard touchdown reception from Mateer, followed by Sandell’s kick, to tie the game at 24.

Sandell then converted the 47-yard field goal for the 27-24 final. The result left Oklahoma with a 3-2 record and Texas at 4-1.
