Five Dallas intersections where city streets meet state highways are slated for new traffic signals, crosswalk and accessibility upgrades starting in February, under an agreement on the City Council's consent agenda for Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The Texas Department of Transportation is building the signals and related improvements, according to the city's agenda information sheet. The five locations are:

  • US 75 at Lovers Lane (Council District 13)
  • US 67 at Wheatland Road (District 3)
  • US 67 at Camp Wisdom Road (District 3)
  • Interstate 20 at Polk Street (District 8)
  • State Highway 190 at Rosemeade Parkway (District 12)

Along with new signals, the work includes pedestrian and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements and retiming of nearby signals affected by the changes. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2027 and finish in February 2028.

Why the city is involved

To keep its equipment consistent across the citywide signal system, Dallas will supply the signal controllers and cabinets, radar detection, traffic signs and battery backups. The advance funding agreement, part of a federal-aid project, has TxDOT repay the city for those materials and the labor, up to $708,832.54.

The breakdown is $283,364.14 for the two US 67 intersections in District 3, $142,747.18 each for Districts 8 and 12 and $139,974.04 for District 13. The item is listed as in line with the city's Vision Zero plan.

More work on Camp Wisdom

A second consent item touches the same corridor. It amends the funding agreement for rebuilding and widening sidewalks, adding pedestrian streetlights and upgrading crosswalks and signal equipment on Camp Wisdom Road from US 67 to Westmoreland Road.

That project carries a total cost of $7,854,750, including $6 million in federal money, $354,750 from the state and $1.5 million from the city. The change revises how indirect state costs are calculated and shifts part of the federal share from air-quality funds to a surface transportation block grant. The agenda sheet says the amendment carries no cost to the city.

Design by Gresham Smith began in February 2025 and is due to finish in February 2027. Construction is scheduled from April 2027 to April 2029.

Consent items are usually approved together in a single vote unless a council member asks to pull one for discussion.
