SMU’s women finished tied for fifth at the Haskins Intercollegiate on Tuesday, October 13, after a final-round 299 brought their three-round total to 872, eight over par.

The Mustangs shared fifth with Pepperdine in the 13-team tournament at the Country Club of Columbus in Georgia. SMU had started the day in second place after Monday’s rounds of 284 and 289 put it at three under.

Tuesday’s 11-over round cost the Mustangs ground in a tightly grouped chase behind Auburn. LSU finished second at 870, while Ohio State and Arkansas tied for third at 871. SMU ended one stroke outside that tie and two strokes from second.

Auburn won at 840, 24 under, after closing with a 280. Its 30-stroke advantage over LSU left the rest of the field competing well behind the leader.

For SMU, the finish follows a tie for fourth at Chambers Bay in its September season opener. The Mustangs’ next event is the Stanford Intercollegiate, beginning Friday, October 16.
