Woodrow Wilson's volleyball team took its 16-match winning streak into the playoffs and left Forester Field House on Thursday with it intact, sweeping Mesquite 25-13, 25-8, 25-12 in a Class 5A bi-district match.

The Wildcats were the only Dallas ISD team to win Thursday. Six others had their seasons end, one of them after taking a 2-1 lead in a match that went the distance. The scores and records below come from MaxPreps.

A narrow exit for Hillcrest

Hillcrest came closest to joining Wilson. After losing the first set 25-15 to Terrell, the Panthers won the next two, 25-20 and 25-17, and had Terrell one set from elimination. Terrell answered 25-13 in the fourth and then won the deciding set 15-13.

Hillcrest, the runner-up in its district at 14-2, finishes 22-18. Terrell, now 31-6 with four straight wins, moves on to face Midlothian on Monday, Nov. 2. Midlothian went 14-0 in district play and is 24-18 overall.

Wilson's path

Wilson finished 16-0 in district play and is 25-13 overall. MaxPreps ranks the Wildcats 44th in Texas.

Mesquite never got within 12 points in any set. That sets up a Monday area-round match against Lancaster, which won its own bi-district match by sweeping Belton 25-22, 25-12, 25-22. Lancaster, third in its district at 11-3, is 23-11 and has won four straight. Time and site for the match had not been posted Friday morning.

The district schedule included two wins over Hillcrest, 3-1 on Sept. 11 and 3-0 on Oct. 13. A win Monday would send the Wildcats to the regional semifinals, scheduled by UIL for Nov. 5-7.

Still to play: W.T. White

One more Dallas ISD team has yet to take the floor. W.T. White (15-12), which finished third in its district at 12-4, meets Garland Naaman Forest at 7 p.m. Friday in Richardson, according to the NFHS Network listing. Naaman Forest went 14-0 in its district and is 23-10. The winner draws Liberty Hill in the area round.

Season-enders elsewhere

Seagoville lost 25-12, 25-17, 25-9 to Mesquite Poteet and finishes 17-18. Poteet improved to 21-16 and awaits an area opponent.

In Class 4A, all four Dallas ISD entries lost in straight sets:

  • Carter fell to Alvarado 25-15, 25-13, 25-9.
  • Kimball lost to Godley 25-4, 25-6, 25-4.
  • Lincoln lost to Kennedale 25-19, 25-8, 25-5.
  • Wilmer-Hutchins lost to Hillsboro 25-9, 25-12, 25-12.

Lincoln's opening set, which it lost by six, was the closest any of the four came.

The road ahead

Area matches run Monday and Tuesday, regional finals are Nov. 9-10, and the state tournament is Nov. 19-21 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

For Wilson, the immediate task is Lancaster, a team that has not lost since mid-October and won all three of its sets Thursday by at least three points. Wilson has not lost since a 2-1 tournament defeat against Wills Point on Aug. 29.
