The bracket pairing has been public for days. The film session is what matters Sunday night.
Seventh-seeded Dallas opens a best-of-three first-round series at second-seeded Golden State at Chase Center, tip listed for 9 p.m. ET on USA and CNBC, Sporting News and Field Level Media's CBS Sports preview reported. The Wings finished 27-17. The Valkyries finished 32-12. Golden State also swept the three-game regular-season series, the last of those a 78-70 win that immediately preceded Dallas's 7-1 closing stretch.
That sweep is the matchup problem, not a historical curiosity.
What Golden State already took away
Field Level Media's series preview put hard numbers on Bueckers' nights against the Valkyries: 53 points, six rebounds and 12 assists across the three meetings. That is not the same player who averaged 22.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists during Dallas's late 7-1 run. Golden State's defense has already shown it can shrink her creation.
The bench gap was wider. The Valkyries outscored Dallas's reserves 100-53 in the season series, Field Level Media reported, with Janelle Salaün and Tiffany Hayes combining for 20.0 points per game off the bench in those wins. In a short series, depth that already worked three times is not a footnote. It is the first adjustment sheet.
Dallas still brings the form that locked the seven-seed. Arike Ogunbowale averaged 17.1 points in the 7-1 stretch. Jessica Shepard posted two triple-doubles and three other double-doubles in that same window, at 16.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Azzi Fudd's season-ending knee surgery last month forced the club to lean harder on that Big Three. Sunday tests whether the late-season version travels into a building that already beat the earlier version three times.
Why Golden State's own finish still matters
The Valkyries are not arriving off a clean runway. After a strong first 42 games, they lost at Portland and needed a late run to overtake the Los Angeles Sparks for the two-seed, the same preview noted. They have never won a playoff game - Minnesota swept them 2-0 as an expansion club last year.
