Dallas’ legislation tracker lists two vehicle-theft grant packages and a separate police task-force funding measure as approved, setting out support for investigations during the new fiscal year.
The auto-theft task-force package includes a $1,466,864 state grant, a $294,617 local cash match and approximately $292,534 in in-kind support. The stated project total is no more than $2,054,015. The in-kind contribution is separate from the city’s cash match.
A second package targets catalytic-converter theft prevention. It combines a $1,128,369 grant with a $227,026 local cash match, totaling $1,355,395. The supporting report lists a uniformed officer, overtime, a marked police vehicle, training and fleet expenses among the uses.
Both vehicle-theft grants come through the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority and cover Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2027. They support separate programs and should not be counted as the same award.
Separately, the fiscal 2026–27 task-force agreement measure provides up to $450,200 in the Various Task Force Fund and a $6,527.90 city payroll-tax contribution from the General Fund. Its total is capped at $456,727.90. The agreements cover work with federal, state and local agencies, including procedures for investigations, reimbursements and asset-forfeiture sharing.
