Moody Children’s Hospital reaches structural milestone in Dallas

The frame of Moody Children’s Hospital has reached its full height, marking a new stage in construction of the Dallas pediatric campus planned by Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

The organizations celebrated installation of the final structural beam Tuesday, Sept. 29, on the 12-story hospital. The campus is projected to open in 2031, according to UT Southwestern’s announcement.

Located across Harry Hines Boulevard from William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, the campus will cover more than 5 million square feet. Plans call for 552 beds across three towers, with expanded inpatient care, surgery and outpatient services for North Texas children.

About 1,700 workers are on site each day, the announcement says. Construction began two years ago.

The planned hospital includes rooms designed to accommodate two caregivers, along with playrooms, music therapy space and areas where children can keep up with schoolwork. The topping-out ceremony marks completion of the structural frame; work on the campus continues.
