Five home runs fueled a dominant offensive performance by the Houston Astros, who defeated the Athletics 13-2 on Sunday at Sutter Health Park. The victory improved Houston’s record to 80-81, while the Athletics fell to 64-97.
The Astros’ barrage began in the first inning when Jeremy Peña launched a home run to left field, measuring 374 feet. This early blast set the tone for a game where Houston’s bats would prove too much for Sacramento’s pitching staff.
Key Scoring Plays
Houston extended its lead in the third inning with a two-run shot by Yordan Alvarez, who hit a home run to center field (417 feet) that also drove in Kyle Tucker. The Athletics responded briefly in the fourth inning when Ramon Laureano grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing one run to score.
The Astros reasserted control in the fifth inning with a three-run homer by Alvarez to right field (401 feet), which included runs from Tucker and Peña. This sequence pushed Houston’s lead to 6-1.
A pivotal seventh-inning rally further widened the gap. Jose Altuve singled to left, prompting Peña to score. Alex Bregman then hit a sacrifice fly to right, bringing Altuve home. Spence doubled to right, scoring Altuve again. Although the Athletics managed one run in the inning via a White single, Houston continued to pile on runs.
In the eighth inning, Peña homered to left (425 feet) with two more runs, followed by another Altuve single that brought Alvarez home. The final run of the game came in the ninth inning when Spence hit a home run to right field (380 feet).
