Black on the Block, described as the nation’s largest touring marketplace for Black-owned businesses, is scheduled to return to Dallas on Sunday, September 20. The event will run from 1 to 7 p.m. at Gilley’s Dallas, located at 1135 Botham Jean Blvd. The venue will host an indoor and outdoor marketplace featuring more than 100 Black-owned businesses, along with food, music, and family-friendly entertainment.
The event has grown since its launch in Los Angeles in 2021, expanding into a traveling cultural hub that connects consumers with Black-owned businesses in cities across the country. Dallas has become one of the largest stops on the tour, drawing support from local entrepreneurs and community members.
Lanie and Char Edwards, the co-founders and sisters behind the organization, stated that the city’s strong community of Black entrepreneurs and creatives contributes to the energy felt during these visits. They noted that the goal is to create an experience where attendees can discover businesses, enjoy food and dance, and support Black-owned enterprises through their purchases.
Vendors at the Dallas event will span a variety of categories, including fashion, beauty, food, accessories, home goods, wellness, and art. This mix allows attendees to shop directly from both emerging and established brands. In addition to the marketplace, DFW Black Tennis, a USTA Texas nonprofit, will host a Red Ball Tennis Pop-Up.
This activation is designed to introduce more families to the sport in a community-centered environment.
