Dallas ranks 18th in the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s 2026 Asthma Capitals report, which compares the challenges of living with asthma across 100 large U.S. metropolitan areas.
AAFA bases the overall ranking on asthma prevalence, asthma-related emergency department visits and asthma deaths. Its coverage is limited to the 100 most populous metropolitan areas in the contiguous United States.
In a separate risk-factor table, Dallas ranks third for lack of health insurance, behind McAllen and El Paso. AAFA says that comparison uses uninsured rates for the counties associated with the metropolitan areas.
The foundation examines insurance access and other conditions that can affect asthma outcomes alongside its overall ranking.
