The Texas Tech football program has finalized its 2030 non-conference schedule by adding a matchup against Texas State. The Red Raiders will host the Bobcats on Sept. 14, 2030, according to a report from FBSchedules.com that cited a contract obtained through an open-records request. The agreement includes a game guarantee of $1.2 million payable by Tech to Texas State.
This addition completes the 2030 slate for the Red Raiders. The season will open with a game against Arkansas at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Aug. 31. Tech will then host Fresno State on Sept. 7 before facing Texas State.
The 2030 opener includes a $3 million participation fee from ESPN Productions, Inc., and the date remains flexible within the Labor Day weekend window, potentially shifting if NCAA legislation regarding the start of the season is passed.
The need to secure opponents on shorter notice than typical was driven by several recent scheduling changes. Mississippi State canceled a two-game series for 2028 and 2029 without penalty due to a change in the SEC scheduling model. North Carolina State exercised a buyout option on a 2027 game in Lubbock, owing Tech $1 million by Feb. 15, 2028.
Additionally, Tech chose to buy out a 2027 game at North Texas, owing UNT $1 million within 60 days of the game date.
Despite these cancellations, the Red Raiders still have two non-conference home games scheduled for each of the 2027, 2028, and 2029 seasons. The 2027 slate includes home games against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and New Mexico. The 2028 schedule features home matchups with Stephen F. Austin and Wyoming.
