Jacob Fields, a former safety for TCU, has been charged with aggravated assault by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office. This charge stems from an incident that occurred in a locker room on August 13, with the formal filing taking place on September 23. Fields is accused of intentionally or recklessly inflicting serious bodily injury on TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.
The complaint alleges that Fields struck Ezukanma in the head and may have kicked him while he was down. Following the altercation, Ezukanma reportedly suffered a concussion and required three days of hospitalization due to a brain bleed. Witness accounts suggest that Fields attacked Ezukanma from behind, causing him to lose consciousness.
After the incident, Fields surrendered to authorities on August 30 and was dismissed from the TCU football team on August 18. He later reached out to Ezukanma via text to express his apologies. The incident was said to have arisen from Fields' frustration regarding his performance during practice.
Fields' agent, Philip Miller, issued a statement advocating for him and underscoring the significance of self-defense. No additional details about the incident have been made public.
