Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino will miss the remainder of the football season after injuring his leg against Prairie View A&M, coach Dave Aranda confirmed after the game. Tezino, a fifth-year senior from Killeen, was hurt on the second offensive play and was later taken from the field by cart.
Aranda said the injury was similar to the ankle injury Travion Barnes sustained a year earlier. “We lose him for the season,” Aranda said. He also said Tezino had been playing the best football of his career.
The injury comes after Tezino made an early impact in Baylor’s season opener against Auburn. He recorded two sacks and deflected a pass that resulted in an interception in that game.
Tezino appeared in all 12 of Baylor’s games last season, starting seven. He totaled 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup during that campaign. Over 29 games at Baylor, he has made 56 tackles.
Baylor has significant depth along its defensive line, but Tezino is the second starting player the team has lost for the season. Safety Jacob Redding also is sidelined by a season-ending injury. Further details about Tezino’s injury were not provided.
