Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to miss the Bears’ Week 2 game against Prairie View A&M while recovering from an ankle injury suffered against Auburn, according to a report from Pete Thamel. It is not yet clear whether Lagway will dress or be available in a limited role.

Nate Bennett is expected to make his first career start for Baylor in Lagway’s place. Bennett has been in the program for several years and has seen limited action as a backup, according to the report.

Lagway played through the injury against Auburn and finished with 333 yards and two touchdowns. Baylor lost after a potential game-winning two-point conversion attempt came up short.

The expected absence would give Lagway additional time to recover before continuing his first season at Baylor. He transferred from Florida after two seasons there, including a 2025 campaign in which he went 4-8 as a starter. He also led Florida to a win over Texas and had a five-interception game against LSU.

Baylor’s schedule after Prairie View A&M includes a game against Louisiana Tech. The Bears are not scheduled to face a currently ranked opponent until a mid-November matchup with BYU, followed by games against BYU, Texas Tech and Houston in the closing stretch. The source did not provide a confirmed timetable for Lagway’s return.
