The Green Bay Packers are signing guard Laken Tomlinson from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad, reducing Dallas' group of practice-squad offensive linemen to two. Tomlinson, 34, joined the Cowboys earlier this month but did not play in either of the team's first two games.
Tomlinson entered the NFL as a first-round selection by the Detroit Lions in 2015. Over 11 seasons, he has appeared in 173 games and started 162. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021 after his season with the San Francisco 49ers, and he has also played for the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans.
Dallas added Tomlinson after All-Pro guard Tyler Smith went on injured reserve following thumb surgery. Smith can become eligible to return after Week 4. The Cowboys now have Marcellus Johnson and Wanya Morris on their practice squad, but neither player has NFL experience at guard.
Johnson is listed as a tackle and has not played in an NFL game, while Morris has played tackle on both sides during his three-year career.
Green Bay has dealt with injuries along its offensive line. Aaron Banks and Zach Bako-Bewele were unavailable in Week 3, and Bako-Bewele is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon. Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been sacked eight times, and the team has allowed 57 pressures through three games, according to Pro Football Focus.
