McDonald, selected by Houston with the 36th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, had been making strides during his first offseason with the club. Despite not being listed as a starter on Houston’s unofficial depth chart, McDonald’s absence is notable given his recent progress. The Texans will monitor his condition closely as they prepare for their season opener. It remains unclear whether he will be able to return to full participation before facing Buffalo.
Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle noted that McDonald was the only player missing from the practice session. His ankle issue stands in contrast to the absence of another Texans player, Will Anderson Jr., who did not participate due to a scheduled rest day rather than a physical concern.
