Dominant Fourth Quarter Seals Victory
Marcel Reed accounted for 163 passing yards and three touchdowns to anchor Texas A&M’s decisive 48-20 victory over Arizona State on Saturday at Kyle Field. The Aggies (2-0) pulled away in the final period, outscoring the Sun Devils (1-1) 24-0 after a competitive first half.
The game began evenly matched, with both teams trading early touchdowns. Rueben Owens II provided the initial spark for Texas A&M with a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Arizona State responded immediately as Cutter Boley connected with Reed Harris on a 21-yard pass to tie the score at 7-7.
The second quarter saw Texas A&M take control through Reed’s efficient passing game and timely kicking from David Olano. Isaiah Horton caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Reed to give the Aggies a 14-7 lead. Arizona State’s Carson Smith narrowed the gap with a 30-yard field goal, but Olano answered with a 22-yard kick to extend Texas A&M’s advantage to 17-10 at halftime.
Defense Turns the Tide
Texas A&M maintained its lead in the third quarter despite strong individual performances from Arizona State. Reed Harris continued to be a primary target for Boley, catching a 58-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-20. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth quarter.
Reed threw his third touchdown of the day to Mario Craver on a 33-yard strike, pushing the score to 31-20. The Aggies’ defense then intervened twice to seal the win. Marco Jones returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 38-20. Olano added a 39-yard field goal before Julio Humphrey capped the scoring with a 45-yard interception return.
