Early voting in the Nov. 3 general election begins Monday, Oct. 19, and Dallas County voters can cast a ballot at any of the county's early voting vote centers, not only one near home, under the countywide vote center model the Elections Department uses.

When the polls are open

The county's schedule sets these hours:

  • Monday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 24: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 25: noon to 6 p.m.
  • Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. may still vote, the county says.

Where to vote

The Elections Department's early voting list, version dated Oct. 15, names 82 locations, while a summary line at its end counts 84. Thirty-nine of the listed sites carry a Dallas address.

They include the Dallas County Records Building at 500 Elm St., the Frank Crowley Courts Building at 133 N. Riverfront Blvd., the Oak Lawn Branch Library on Cedar Springs Road, the Paul L. Dunbar Library on East Kiest Boulevard, Fretz Park Library on Belt Line Road and Dallas College's Mountain View, West Dallas and Pleasant Grove locations.

The rest are spread from Addison and Carrollton to Lancaster, Mesquite, Irving and Grand Prairie.

What to bring

Texas law requires one of seven accepted forms of photo ID at the polls. For voters 18 to 69, an ID may be up to four years past its expiration date; for voters 70 and older, an expired ID of any age is accepted if it is otherwise valid.

A voter who lacks an accepted photo ID and has a reasonable impediment to getting one can show a supporting document, such as a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or voter registration certificate, and sign a declaration.

Voters may bring printed notes or a marked sample ballot, which the county posts online by address. Phones and other wireless devices are not allowed in the room where voting takes place, and campaign clothing is barred within 100 feet of a vote center entrance.

Mail ballot deadline

Applications to vote by mail must reach the county by Friday, Oct. 23, before the office closes. Applications can be emailed or faxed, but the voter must also mail the signed paper original, which has to arrive within four business days.

The Elections Department is at 1520 Round Table Drive in Dallas and can be reached at 469-627-8683.
