Playoff basketball is back on the Arlington calendar, and the first tip will not be at home.
The Dallas Wings clinched the No. 7 seed in the WNBA playoffs Wednesday, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported, and will open a best-of-three first-round series on the road Saturday against either the Golden State Valkyries or the Las Vegas Aces. Game 2 is scheduled for College Park Center on Tuesday or Wednesday night.
A deciding Game 3, if required, would fall Thursday or Friday of the same window.
That schedule is fixed even while the opponent is not. Thursday's final regular-season games among the top clubs will decide whether Dallas flies to the Bay Area or to Las Vegas for Game 1.
How the opponent gets named
NBC 5 laid out the fork clearly. If Golden State beats the already-eliminated Los Angeles Sparks, the Valkyries hold the No. 2 seed and host the Wings. If Golden State loses and Las Vegas beats Phoenix, the Aces can move into the two-seed and draw Dallas instead.
Mavs Moneyball added the regular-season context that will shape local expectations either way: Dallas took two of three from Las Vegas this year and looked overmatched in two of three against Golden State. Neither sample is large enough to forecast a series, but both explain why Thursday's results will be watched as closely in North Texas as any remaining Wings practice.
Bleacher Report's final-day bracket note listed Minnesota, Golden State, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Indiana, Washington, Dallas and New York as the eight clubs in the field, with seeds 2, 3, 5 and 6 still subject to Thursday movement. Dallas and New York are locked at 7 and 8. Minnesota and Atlanta are locked at 1 and 4.
Why Game 2 in Arlington matters
College Park Center becomes the first home playoff date of the Wings' return to the postseason since 2023. NBC 5 reported tickets for next week's home game are already on sale. For a franchise that spent last season at 10 wins, a midweek playoff night in Arlington is the tangible proof that the climb produced a series, not just a better record.
The path still starts on the road. Road Game 1 against a top-two seed is the hardest opening the bracket can hand a seven-seed. A split after two games would send the series back to Arlington for a third night with the season on the line. A 2-0 hole would end it before the home crowd gets a second look.
