The sequence started with Wyatt Langford's solo home run leading off the fifth, his 17th of the season. With the score later tied 1-1, Arizona believed it had turned an inning-ending double play. First-base umpire Bill Miller ruled Corey Seager safe, signaling that pitcher Brandon Pfaadt's foot was off the bag.
The Diamondbacks challenged; the video review was inconclusive, and Miller's call stood. Texas scored five more times after that ruling, the AP wrote, with Ezequiel Duran's two-run single among the key hits.
How the inning grew
Sports Illustrated's game follow added Josh Jung's fingerprints on the rally. Jung, activated earlier Saturday from a left calf strain and batting third, singled home Elias Diaz and later scored on Duran's hit. The combination of Langford's leadoff blast, the upheld call at first, and the cascade of singles turned a one-run scrap into a multi-run cushion.
Pfaadt (7-3) absorbed the damage: six runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts, per the AP. For Texas, Kumar Rocker bridged the early innings with four frames, one run, two hits, two walks and five strikeouts before the offense finally broke through.
Reinforcements inside the same box score
The win was not only about one half-inning. Texas activated Jung and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi before the game, Sports Illustrated reported, optioning Logan O'Hoppe and Adam Macko to Triple-A Round Rock. Jung finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
Eovaldi, returning from right posterior elbow inflammation, worked 2 2/3 relief innings - his first relief appearance since 2019 and first outing since Aug. 7 - allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts, the AP noted.
