Students and staff at Woodrow Wilson High School spent part of Friday afternoon outside after a gas smell was reported in the building, but firefighters found no leak and cleared everyone to return before the school day ended.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the Dallas ISD campus in the 100 block of South Glasgow Drive at about 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, FOX 4 reported, citing the fire department and the school. Firefighters confirmed an odor inside a classroom, and the school evacuated everyone as a precaution.

Crews shut off the gas to that room and notified Atmos Energy. Hazardous-materials units then checked the building. At 4:10 p.m. they determined there was no gas leak and let students and staff go back inside to finish the day.

The fire department said the smell came from a chemistry lab. Investigators believe a valve in the room may have been left on, according to the report.

No injuries were reported.

The evacuation was one of two Dallas Fire-Rescue calls on Friday that drew attention across the city. Earlier that morning, crews fought a two-alarm fire at a nightclub building on West Northwest Highway that was empty at the time; no one was hurt there either.
