José “Joe” May Elementary School has earned its first A rating after a three-letter-grade improvement, Dallas ISD reported Sept. 11.

The Northwest Dallas campus also received Texas Education Agency distinctions for academic growth, postsecondary readiness and closing the gaps, according to the district.

Dallas ISD’s account describes a classroom approach centered on reading, writing and speaking. Teachers planned lessons around clear daily objectives, used academic data to track progress and shared that progress with students.

The district highlighted the work of educators at the campus, which opened 10 years ago, in its September report on the school’s rating.
