Amber Givens and Eric Reed are competing for the position of Dallas County district attorney in the November 2026 general election. Givens, the Democratic nominee, secured her nomination by defeating two-term incumbent John Creuzot in the March primary. Reed, a longtime Dallas attorney, entered the contest last month as a write-in candidate, creating a direct challenge in a race that previously had no Republican opponents.
Reed stated that his primary goal is to inform voters on how to record his name on the ballot. He also outlined a platform focused on providing treatment options for defendants with mental health and substance abuse issues rather than incarceration. Additionally, he proposed initiatives to train young prosecutors by bringing in experienced local lawyers.
Reed has been meeting with grassroots groups, individuals, and businesses to spread his message.
Givens, who served as a judge for the 282nd District Court for 11 years before stepping down in December, is urging supporters to vote during the early voting period. In a video posted on September 17, she reminded followers that the election was not over with her primary win and asked them to cast their ballots between October 19 and 30.
She did not respond to requests for comment regarding the new challenger.
